This course aims at understanding OSHA PSM Standard (29 CFR 1910.119) requirements, as well as learning how to effectively implement a process safety management system to comply with the regulation and avoid process-related injuries and accidents.
The OSHA's PSM is a performance-based Standard and therefore, subject to interpretation. The course unveils what constitutes full compliance with the PSM Standard, how to meet the requirements and how to effectively develop and implement a process safety management system to prevent catastrophic accidents from covered processes.
Participants learn not only how to interpret the performance-based requirements of the PSM Standard but also EPA Risk Management Program rule (40 CFR Part 68), as well as related industry standards.
This is a hands-on and very interactive training, consisting of several workshops and video-based case studies. A detailed course manual and workshop materials are provided.
The course addresses how to safely manage hazards associated with processes using, manufacturing, handling, storing or transporting Highly Hazardous Chemicals (HHC) and flammables Specifically, the training covers the OSHA PSM 14 regulatory requirements, overview of Process Safety and Loss Prevention, Process Safety Culture, Operational Discipline and Operational Excellence, as well as the following:
- How to develop written programs to meet PSM requirements
- How to plan and start implementation at your company/ facility
- How to communicate PSM requirements to others throughout the organization
- How to evaluate program compliance throughout and after implementation
- Key performance indicators, leading and lagging indicators and tracking
