Presentation: Process Safety Risks Considerations for Mergers and Acquisitions

Process safety management is an integrated system designed to the prevention of releases of any substance defined as a “highly hazardous chemical”. Process Safety Management (PSM) consist of a set of interrelated approaches to managing hazards associated with the process industries and is intended to reduce the frequency and severity of incidents resulting from releases of chemicals and other energy sources. Many companies around the world implemented PSM in their organization and have seen major improvements in their safety performance; in particular process safety. During this session Dr. Melhem, along with other speakers, will share success stories of companies who have effectively implemented PSM. The session will also discuss how PSM performance is monitored and the type of leading and lagging KPIs utilized for this purpose.
Dr. Melhem is an internationally known pressure relief design, chemical reaction systems, and fire and explosion dynamics expert. In this regard, he has provided consulting and design services, expert testimony and incident investigation support, and reconstruction for a large number of clients. Dr. Melhem holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering, as well as a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Industrial Engineering, all from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. In addition, he has completed executive training in the areas of Finance and Strategic Sales Management at the Harvard Business School.
