Quantitative Risk Assessment Virtual Training

Quantitative Risk Assessment Virtual Training

A Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) study is an invaluable method for making informed risk-based process safety planning decisions, as well as being fundamental to any facility siting decision-making. Evaluating the risk levels of a process due to potential Loss of Containment scenarios (LOCs) is the main purpose of a QRA.

Join us on Wednesday, November 5 and Thursday, November 6, 2025, for this live instructor-led course facilitated by Ram Goyal and gain a foundational understanding of risk quantification principles, techniques, and practices as they apply in the chemical, petrochemical, oil, gas, and process industries, where the inadvertent release of flammable and/or toxic substances can potentially cause harm to people, the environment, or facilities.

Learners will be introduced to the key components of QRA, such as estimating the frequencies or rates of events with potential for hazardous outcomes, release rates, flammable material pools, vapor cloud dispersion, and subsequent harm from fires, explosions, or toxic vapors. They will gain a clear understanding of what the current industry’s best practices are in determining (un)acceptability of the risk, computed both in terms of Individual Risk and Societal Risk, and how to reduce an identified risk to a level As Low As Reasonably Practicable (the ALARP principle).

Our instructor, Ram Goyal, is an experienced process safety consultant who is well known for his contributions to QRA-based decision making and the author of “Management of Change” Chapter 9 in the UK IChemE book Process Safety Management and Human Factors. Prior to joining ioMosaic Corporation, Mr. Goyal held roles at two national oil companies in the Middle East, a major US oil firm, a large engineering company in Houston, and a state-owned enterprise in the UK.

Virtual Instructor-Led Training

The course is delivered virtually and provides a dynamic learning environment anywhere without sacrificing effectiveness. Learners interact and collaborate in real-time. They can ask questions, talk to the instructor, and take part in group discussions. Your team gets the training they need without incurring the costs of travel and time away from the office.

Learning Objectives

  • Define the fundamental concepts of hazard identification, and risk (in terms of event likelihood and consequences)
  • Identify how event frequencies and equipment/system failure rates can be estimated
  • Basic understanding of consequence modeling
  • Describe the significance of meteorological data in estimating release consequences
  • Event tree analyses – fires, explosions, toxic exposure
  • Concepts of risk appetite or risk tolerability – how safe is safe enough?
  • Describe the core strengths of QRA and the challenges it faces
