Beyond HAZOP: Understand Risk Assessment Options for LNG Webinar

Join us on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM CST for a complimentary one-hour webinar to explore Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) risk assessment methodologies, from high-level qualitative hazard analysis to advanced quantitative 3D hazard analysis. Presenter Judy Perry, CCPSC, will examine key historical industry incidents to demonstrate how high-quality engineering risk assessments influence real-world LNG operations.

LNG industry operations feature a distinct hazard profile driven by cryogenic temperatures, very large inventories of liquefied flammable gas, rapid phase change, and the behavior of cold methane vapor. Under ambient conditions, one volume of LNG produces roughly 600 volumes of natural gas. Furthermore, large LNG pool fires can result in severe thermal radiation at significant distances.

Because of these unique physical mechanics, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and HAZOP studies require critical, distinctive assessments, such as evaluating cryogenic exposure impacts and the consequences of LNG reaching water.

Key Topics Covered

  • Methodology Evaluation: Utilizing traditional Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and component-level Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) in the LNG industry.
  • Advanced Risk Tools: Application of Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and 3D Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).
  • Actionable Outcomes: Converting hazard findings into a prioritized roadmap for capital planning and risk reduction.
  • Incident Analysis: Case studies showing how engineering risk assessments affect real-world plant operations.

Who Should Attend

This 60-minute program is designed for process safety and technical engineering professionals in the LNG industry, as well as plant design engineers working on Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) who need to understand how their engineering drawings directly influence risks. Also, regulatory authorities or independent compliance inspectors will benefit.

Submit Your Questions in Advance

Attendees are encouraged to submit questions prior to the event to William Prophet for the live Q&A session. Topic examples include:

  • The LNG industry is especially concerned with cross-unit events, such as a trip in one sector generating a pressure surge back through storage. How are these scenarios typically captured in PHAs?
  • With multiple methodologies available, why does HAZOP remain the most prevalent methodology?
  • What is your opinion on the most critical variables to ensure a high-quality PHA is conducted?
